VOLUNTEER TRAINING SCHEDULE: Please note we offer our 40hr. Volunteer Crisis Responder training every Spring. Starting in April and finishing in June. If you have missed this years training feel free to fill out an application and send it in and we will call you next spring to inquire about your intentions. Position SummaryAfter successful completion of the standardized volunteer training, evaluation and swearing an oath of confidentiality, you may qualify as a Crisis Responder with Victim Services of Huron County. Once qualified, the volunteer crisis responder, always working as part of a crisis team, will respond immediately to requests from emergency service personnel to provide short term emotional support and practical assistance to victims of crime or tragic circumstance. The volunteer crisis responder will ensure that appropriate options and/or referrals for longer term assistance are provided to the victim. Time CommitmentIn order to effectively serve the needs of our communities, our volunteer crisis responders make a one year commitment during which they are on call for 3-4, 12 hour shift per month. Shift start times are 8 a.m. or 8 p.m. We also have a monthly meeting which is mandatory to attend. We ask that you attend at least six of the nine meetings. They are always the second Tuesday of each month from March til November. At these meetings we provide further training, information on local resources, and an opportunity to debrief calls on we have been involved in.
